Challenges

  • Integrate into existing on-location live broadcast infrastructure
  • Acquire feeds from mobile phones, mobile drones and Twitter Periscope
  • Make streams available for further potential use in linear broadcasts on TV and multiple Facebook and YouTube channels

Solution

Using Make.TV’s Live Video Cloud FOX Sports was able to:

  • Offer multiple live videos from various angles, locations and perspectives
  • Deliver live broadcasts on FOX Sports Brasil’s YouTube channel with a multi-angle player, allowing viewers to switch between the different feeds, and to multiple Facebook Live feeds and pages
  • Publish Make.TV feeds to FOX Sports Brasil’s Live Control Room for broadcast on FOX Sports Brasil TV channel and the website

Highlights

  • Make.TV’s Live Video Cloud was used to produce and broadcast live shows to Facebook Live, where both Brazilian and Chilean hosts commented on the games, results and reacted to viewers’ questions. Daily 30-40 minute shows reached nearly 100K viewers within minutes.
  • For the FOX Sports opening party, multiple mobile reporters were equipped with FOX GO, a white-labeled version of Make.TV’s Streamtag app to enable mobile user contributed video. The feeds were then routed to the Make.TV Selector application where they were monitored, curated and selected for output. Selected feeds were broadcast to the FOX Sports YouTube multi-angle event player.

use-case-youtube

YouTube enables its audience to experience interactive viewing.

For the announcement of the "Life is Beautiful" Festival the make.tv Selector was used to acquire live feeds from mobile devices and stationary cameras and route them to multiple outputs to the Life is Beautiful channel on YouTube. This way the online audience could choose between four camera angles. In doing so, the stage at this location was covered by four stationary cameras, which were attached to hardware encoders and streams were sent into the Live Video Cloud. Additional streams of the crowd were provided through mobile contributors using the StreamTag App. After the event, the contributed footage of the show was downloaded from the make.tv Manager and used for the post-production video.

Advantages through make.tv

  • no expensive equipment
  • content acquisition through mobile devices and stationary cameras
  • enrichment of linear production with UGC
  • usage of media assets and archives for post-production
  • routing of four different live streams to YouTube Live
